Industrial Communication

Industrial Communication Systems

Rugged voice and data networks for plants, mines and utilities — connecting PLCs, RTUs, meters and moving machines to the control room over industrial wireless, fibre and Ethernet.

What it is

The network your plant runs on

An industrial communication system is the network that lets field equipment — PLCs, RTUs, protection relays, energy meters, drives and sensors — exchange data with SCADA and control-room systems, and lets people across a large site talk to each other.

Unlike an office network, it has to keep working in heat, dust, vibration and electrical noise, over long distances and around moving machinery, every hour of the day. That is the work we have specialised in since 1994.

SARVANI TELECOM under brand name STEL, specialise in professional radio / industrial communication systems for voice and data applications.

How we connect

Wireless, fibre and Ethernet — matched to the site

Telecom tower with antennas on a forested hilltop

Industrial wireless

Licence-free 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links — and our speciality, non line of sight (NLOS) links — wherever cable cannot go: moving stackers and reclaimers, remotely located Modbus IEDs, scattered solar blocks and wind turbines.

  • Industrial radio modems in IP67 die-cast enclosures
  • Long links — over 50 km, antenna and line of sight permitting
  • Site and line-of-sight survey before every design
Rows of fibre optic connectors with single-mode patch cords

Fibre optic

Single-mode and multimode fibre, OPGW and ADSS cable for long runs, links between buildings and paths through high-voltage areas — immune to electrical interference and free of ground loops.

  • Industrial media converters and RS485-to-fibre converters
  • FODPs, patch cords, splicing and testing
  • OPGW links to grid substations

Industrial Ethernet & serial

DIN-rail switches, serial device servers and protocol gateways inside the control panel — bringing RS485 Modbus meters, relays and RTUs onto one IP network.

  • Industrial switches with redundant DC power inputs
  • RS485 / RS232 to Ethernet conversion
  • Modbus, IEC-101 / 104 and DNP3 gateways
Where it is used

Built for heavy industry and utilities

Cement plants

Remote control of stackers and reclaimers over NLOS wireless, wireless data from moving platforms, and plant-wide voice — EPABX, VHF radio and public address — on one platform.

Protocols

One network, many protocols

Our gateways and RTUs translate between the protocols field devices speak and the ones control centres expect.

Modbus RTUSerial master / slave protocol over RS485 — the common language of energy meters, drives and PLCs.
Modbus TCPModbus carried over Ethernet / TCP-IP, on TCP port 502.
IEC 60870-5-101Serial telecontrol protocol used between RTUs and utility SCADA control centres.
IEC 60870-5-104IEC-101 carried over TCP/IP networks, on port 2404 — used for SLDC data links.
DNP3Utility telecontrol protocol standardised as IEEE 1815 — over serial lines or TCP/IP, on port 20000.
Engineering

Built for industrial conditions

Hardened hardware

Fanless, DIN-rail and IP67 outdoor equipment with wide operating temperature ranges and redundant DC power inputs.

Redundant paths

Main & standby links and ring topologies, so a single cable cut or radio fade does not stop the data.

Isolation & surge protection

Galvanically isolated RS485, fibre between buildings to break ground loops, and surge protection on field lines.

Secure remote access

Plant networks kept separate from office IT, with VPN-secured links for remote monitoring and support.

Track record

Our industrial communication projects

1999

Nagarjunasagar Dam

A blend of wire & wireless communication, interfacing EPABX telephone lines with 2-way VHF radio system working in the tunnels of world famous NAGARJUNASAGAR DAM, for the communication purpose of inspection engineers of AP Irrigation Dept.

2002
