Solar & Wind Power Plant SCADA Schemes
Internal communication inside solar OR wind power plants — either for remote monitoring and control of breakers, RS 485 MODBUS / TCP-IP MODBUS for energy meter monitoring / weather monitoring station, or for any IP phone intercom requirements — can be arranged on wireless / OFC / copper cables.
Power plants data integration to SLDC SCADA
Solar, wind and other power plants generation data acquisition and transmission to SLDC as per the mandatory condition of Central ERC.

Each scheme below is drawn from our own projects.
- 01Plant SCADA — wireless MODBUS data acquisition
- 02RTU + RF link + PLCC communication to SLDC
- 03RTU + RF link + ISP leased line
- 04Mini RTU + BSNL leased line, and PLCC with main & standby RTU

Plant SCADA — wireless MODBUS data acquisition
No need for OFC or copper cable laying inside power plants and industries. Data collection from remote IEDs like energy meters & flow meters, power transformers, remote monitoring and controlling of pumps, motors, valves etc. can be made possible covering 3–4 km distance effortlessly. Very quickly deployable and easy for O&M.
- All analog and digital data in RS485 MODBUS or TCP/IP MODBUS to the SCADA PLC in the master control room.
- Power transformer data — OLTC tap changer, oil temperature — over RS232.
- Weather station data over RS485 bus.
- Breaker close / open control and field inputs (breaker & isolator status) through I/O modules.
- Electricity, gas and water meters and multifunction meters on RS485 bus.
RTU + RF link + PLCC communication to SLDC
Plant data from a KEMA certified Schneider MiCOM C264C RTU is carried in IEC-101 protocol over an industrial grade RF link to APTRANSCO 220 KV SS Chillakallu — the tower line route being an interstate circuit — then over a PUNCOM PLCC link to Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station, Vijayawada, and handed into the APTRANSCO broadband network interconnected to ALDC Nunna.
- 11 MW co-generation and 1 MW solar PV, exporting to grid at 132 KV.
- RTU acquires bus voltage, frequency, MW and MVAR.
- IEC-101 protocol end to end.
- Operational in real time since August 2014.
RTU + RF link + ISP leased line
Where the utility network is far from the plant, the MiCOM C264C RTU output in IEC-104 protocol is carried over a point-to-point radio link between the power plant and the ISP cell BTS, and from there over an ISP leased circuit to the SLDC SCADA control room.
- IEC-104 protocol point-to-point radio link between power plant and ISP cell BTS.
- ISP leased circuit between routers at the BTS and the SLDC premises.
- No long cable route to lay from the plant.
Mini RTU + BSNL leased line, and PLCC with main & standby RTU
Two reporting paths for one plant. Plant data from the MiCOM mini RTU panel at the First Solar 40 MW PV plant, Nelapalli, reaches the SLDC SCADA server at AP TRANSCO Nunna in IEC-104 over an RF link to the BSNL cell BTS and a BSNL MPLS circuit. Bay data from the MiCOM main & standby RTU panel at Punganuru 132 KV SS travels in IEC-101 over PUNCOM PLCC to Palamaneru 220 KV SS, where the existing AREVA RTU panel passes it on to the SLDC SCADA server at CK Palli, Kadapa.
- 33 KV line from the plant to Punganuru 132 KV SS; 132 KV line on to Palamaneru 220 KV SS.
- IEC-104 over BSNL MPLS; IEC-101 over PLCC.
- Works alongside an existing third-party (AREVA) RTU panel at the 220 KV substation.
Redundancy RTU scheme to SRLDC and NLDC
For large solar parks reporting to both the regional and the national load despatch centres, a Siemens redundancy RTU panel takes data from the plant SCADA and delivers it through the 33/132 KV pooling station over duplicated channels to SRLDC Bangalore and NLDC Delhi.
- Main and standby RTU with duplicated communication paths.
- IEC-104 protocol to SRLDC Bangalore and NLDC Delhi.
- Also delivered for Sterling & Wilson FRV 50 MW Plot-8, Veligallu, Kadapa.
Integration of SCADA of different solar plants on RF links
Solar and wind power plants under a single PPA of utility and located at various different locations — SCADA and control systems can be integrated together through long distance RF wireless systems / OF cables. Highly useful wireless systems, especially when ROW issues are present.
- Long distance RF links between plant SCADA LANs.
- Works where right-of-way prevents laying cable between sites.
- Suryoday Energy — Aragonda 19 MW ↔ Annaram 15 MW
- Thangadapally 32 MW ↔ Patlur 18 MW
- Transform Sun Energy — Addakal 54 MW ↔ Baleedupalli 46 MW
- Sun Shakti Solar Power — Peddayapalli 30 MW ↔ Thimmakapalli 20 MW
- Solar Edge Power Energy — Parli 50 MW ↔ 16 MW ↔ 14 MW
- Solar Edge Power Energy — Mukthainagar 42 MW ↔ 8 MW
Wind farm SCADA — WTG interconnection
Wind turbines are spread across kilometres of terrain. Each WTG controller is connected to the wind farm SCADA at the pooling substation over optical fibre or long distance wireless links, and the RTU there reports the generation data to the SLDC.
- Inter-connectivity communication solutions for WTG sites over OFC and wireless.
- Wireless links are highly useful where ROW issues are present.
- SLDC reporting in IEC-101 / IEC-104 over MPLS VPN, PLCC or OPGW.
- Our automation clients include wind energy companies such as Suzlon and Mytrah Energy.
Internet bandwidth delivery to solar power plants
High speed internet / ILL bandwidth for remotely located solar and wind power plants, delivered from the internet service provider over a point-to-point RF link — for O&M operations at the plant.
- PTP dedicated leased lines and MPLS VPN circuits for voice and data.
- Delivered to remote plants where wired last mile is not available.
- Sterling & Wilson — Suryoday Energy Aragonda, NVR Mahasolar Mograle, FRV Plot-2 & Plot-8 Kadapa, Transform Sun Energy Baleedupally
- Waaneep Solar — Waaree Energies plants at Amelipalle and Nagari, Chittoor Dist.
- Ongoing: Solar Edge Power Energy, Parli and Muktainagar, Maharashtra
